Romance Language Project

Okay here’s the gist of this page folks: we’re wrangling with the similarities and differences of romance languages - Latin, Italian, Romanian, Portuguese, Spanish, French (and English).

The goal is to create a list of must-have vocabulary (beginning with ≤500 common words / phrases) and map it in an intuitive fashion. Grammar will be similarly outlined.

The expected tools for accomplishing this will be mind mapping software and spreadsheet matrices.

One possible system for organizing the languages is in the order listed above: Latin - Italian - Romanian - Portuguese - Spanish - French - English. The general idea being to create a spectrum from Romance to Anglo.

This project is not explicitly mnemonic in its nature. Instead, its goal is to create a framework for developing a generalized understanding of the similarities and differences between these languages and their key structural characteristics. It is my hope that this project will empower people to attain a greater linguistic foundation and enable them to approach the acquisition of a new language with some degree of a standardized system rather than aimless floundering.
