How to Get Started with Memory Sports
A memory sport is a competitive game that involves memorization. Think of a sport like basketball or baseball, but instead of trying to score points by throwing a ball around, you score points by memorizing more information faster than the other athletes!
Common types of data that are memorized at memory competitions include random numbers, random cards, random names and faces, random pictures, and random words.
At the top levels of the memory sports world, people are able to perform feats like memorizing shuffled decks of cards in less than 15 seconds. Imagine being able to perfectly memorize 80 digits of pi in less than 15 seconds! Top mental athletes can perform those kinds of feats, and none of them has a photographic or eidetic memory.
Anyone can participate in memory sports and competitions, even if you’re a beginner. The techniques are fun and easy to learn.

Examples of memory sporting events are Memory League, the World Memory Championships, and the USA Memory Championship.
People who compete in memory sports are called mental athletes.
