Back from Ireland

1-minute read Updated on

I just got back to California from a trip to Dublin and Belfast. I didn’t have any dedicated time to practice memory techniques, but I tried to practice on every number that I came across during the day – usually telephone numbers.

I wish I could go to the USA Memory Championship in March, but I don’t think I’m going to make it.

I’m currently recovering from the flu, so it will be a few days before I get back to blogging.

How are you at remembering phone numbers spoken to you over the phone? This is a skill I need in my job but people chunk in 3's so it is hard with a 2-digit system. I thought about memorizing area code images and then trying to quickly form the next 3 digits as two images and the final 4 digits as 2 images but I cannot take the chance practicing this in real-life situations. I considered going to a 3-digit major system just for this reason.

People usually don't tell me their telephone numbers over the phone anymore, so I'm not sure how I would do. :)

I like my mixed 000-999 / 00-99 system for phone numbers though. A US phone number is 3-3-2-2 or just 3-2-2 if I know the area code.
