Running Count Game
Cards slide out of a six-deck shoe and across the felt, one at a time. Keep the running count in your head with the Hi-Lo system as they pass. The count is never shown. Every eight cards the cards stop and the table asks for it. Right answers build a streak and bring the cards faster, and a wrong answer costs a life and shows you where the count went.
Cards slide out of a six-deck shoe one at a time. Keep the Hi-Lo count in your head and give it every eight cards.
How to play
- Cards leave the shoe on the right and slide across the felt to the discard tray on the left. Count each one as it passes.
- Hi-Lo gives every card a value. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 count +1. 7, 8 and 9 count 0. 10, jack, queen, king and ace count −1. The legend at the foot of the table is there if you forget.
- After every eighth card the cards stop and the panel asks for the count. Type it on the keypad and press CHECK. The ± key makes it minus, so −4 is ± then 4.
- The count carries on from one check to the next, as it does at a real table. It starts at 0 with a fresh shoe, and a new shoe comes in once three quarters of the old one has been dealt.
- A right count adds one to your streak, and each card in the next stretch comes a little faster. A wrong count costs one of your three lives, puts the speed back to where you started, and shows the eight cards with their values, the count before them and the right count.
On a keyboard, type the digits, press minus for a negative count and Enter to check. Backspace takes back a digit. Space or Escape pauses. You can start slow, medium or fast. Practice mode shows each card's value under it, costs no lives and saves no score.
Scoring
Each right count scores 100 points at the speed you started at.
- Each right answer in a row adds a tenth to the speed of the next eight cards, and the same to what they score, up to two and a half times.
- So the third right answer in a row comes at 1.2 times the speed and scores 120.
- A wrong count scores nothing and puts the speed back to the start.
Your five best scores for each starting speed are saved in this browser, with the number of checks you reached. Practice games are not saved.
