Trying to learn/memorise grammar

Hi!

I am currently studying to become a foreign languages teacher in Sweden, that is to say I will teach Swedish to foreign students. Currently, I am undergoing a course in Swedish grammar. I am having considerable difficulties memorising the grammar rules, etc. I think the main problem I have is that I have a poor short term memory and that the grammar literature has lots of grammar on each page - too much information that is. After I have read a page I can't remember anything.

Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Could you post a specific example or two? Maybe some conjugations or declensions. I'm not familiar with Swedish.

Hi Josh!

Thank you for your reply. A bit late, I know, but here goes:

For example "How to form different verb forms":

Swedish: Infinitiv: grundform + a
Ingen ändelse läggs till om grundformen (imperativ) redan slutat på a

English: Infinitive: basic form +a.
No ending is added if the basic form (imperativ) already ends with an a.

Swedish: Presens: grundform + r efter a
grundform + er efter konsonant

English: Present tense: basic form +r after a
basic form + er after consonant

I have trouble memorising all of these rules, there are several more rules for past tense, supinum, strong verbs, short verbs, etc.

Any ideas?

Sorry for the delay in replying. Can you make images from the rules and then place them in a memory journey?

I've brainstormed some ideas over in the blog in the past, though they have not been extensively tested:
