Memory Practice Routines

Hi everyone,

I'm a relative novice when it comes to the art of memory. I've been practicing on and off for the last year and half. I'm a teacher, so unfortunatley my weeks are very busy during the school year and I either don't have much time to practice or I'm frankly exhausted, so I'm looking to make sure that I'm using my time as efficiently as possible.

Even over the summer when I have more time to practice, I can work for about an hour a day before I find my brain getting tired. I'm wondering if working for such long intervals is even a good idea, or I should be practicing in more short bursts (kind of like a cardio HIIT routine).

I just have a few general questions about people's routines...

1) How long do most people practice each day?
2) How much time do you spend reviewing/renewing old palaces?
3) How much time do you spend adding new information to an already build palace?
4) How much time do you spend building brand new palaces with fresh loci?
5) Do you prefer reviewing for one longer session or multiple times a day in short bursts?

I'm mainly using memory palaces to develop a stronger working memory for names, events, places mentioned in my daily life and in my reading. I'm also developing more palaces for systematic trivia, like the US presidents.

I appreciate any advice or feedback people can offer. Thanks!

For me, short bursts of practice work better, since I don't get as tired.

1) I practice around 30 minutes to 1 hour a day
2) I review my palaces with spaced repetition (only the ones in which I store information I want to keep for ever), a review doesn't take much time.
3) Depends on how much I add. I rarely do that though.
4) I have set a goal to make one new journey each week.
5) Multiple times in short bursts.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I've been practicing an hour a day usually too. Sometimes I feel like a lunatic spending so much time. My wife probably thinks I'd be better spending my time reading or something. Glad to know other people's routines are pretty serious too.
