Hogwarts Mind Palace

I'm planning to build a Hogwarts mind palace for my study in school using books, movies, games, and any other sources available. Does anyone with experience in building their own mind palace have any tips that they can share with me? Any response at all would be greatly appreciated

I have made most of my palaces through games and movies, so I'll see what I can do :)

As I do with movies, best is to first get a layout of the palace ready. Just a general map that shows where all the rooms are.
This is the reason why I never made one of Hogwarts, it changes in every book, game, movie, etc. So basically you have to create your own map or find one made by someone else. Lot of work, too much for me.

Second, find a general route. Which order do you pass the rooms so you get the most efficient tour through. This is just some puzzeling, and the most fun part if you ask me ^^ In bigger palaces, I split the one palace up into multiple small palaces. Like with the Citadel, a huge space station from the Mass Effect games, where I made every floor into another memory palace instead of one huge palace.

Third, add loci, which shouldn't need to much explanation.

Thank you! I really appreciate that you took the time to reply to this post :)

I was fretting about all the differences in books, games, and movies; but after reading your post I decided to fill in most of the blank with my own imagination since it's going to be my mind palace.

I'm excited about finally creating my version of Hogwarts^^

Do you use your palaces for studying or for competition related practices? If you use one for studying, do you reuse the locis that are almost not needed for recall because it's practically not needed anymore?

I do use a lot of palaces for permanent information, though not really to study.

When I am not in need of a certain image anymore, I usually just keep it anyway. Throwing some away and keeping others can get confusing, especially in larger palaces.. Hence I just keep all images even if I don't need them anymore to recall the information.

Oh yeah even keeping track of all the loci's in the palaces might get confusing lol

I think the final question I have is have you ever ran out of loci's, and if so did you create a new mind palace or create new images on top of/next to the old images?

If you run out of loci, just expand the size of your palace. Despite the name, it doesn't have to be all indoors. If you've used all the rooms in a building, for instance, continue the palace outside the building, such as including the rest of the neighborhood. I'd recommend watching Nelson Dellis's video where he uses a 2,000 loci palace to memorize thousands of digits of pi.

I just found a post stating that a group of people created the entire harry potter universe on minecraft and that it is available to download for free.

• Know your palace like the back of your hand
• Look online for maps and images perhaps print them out and make a map out of them.
• Describe your palace in essay form. The color of the walls the statue the lights the colorful flags and so on.....
