Anyone using a 4-digit system?

Hi,

Has anyone ever tried a 4-digit system, as in 0000-9999 images. It's obviously a huge task. Once I get infallible with my 2-digit system, I want to switch to a 3-digit one, but just wondering has anyone attempted the 4-digit behemoth

Some people (not me, despite what that blog says) do now use one - I think Simon Reinhard is the foremost of them. It is pretty mind-boggling, but it's worth the effort, I'm sure!

people have done it, but I am not sure about its true effectiveness in general. I read about Ben and Simon doing such huge things, but to be honest, they are in a league of their own.

The main obstacle is finding the images, not even learning them. A trained mnemonist can make a 4-digit system work in a few months, but finding the images is hard, as you basically need really a lot. Now, this would get easier if you mix up the kinds of images, 5000 persons and 5000 objects, which you can then use as it is, or combine with the block system to use it as a PO system.

Huge lists exist to use, just look at http://www.scp-wiki.net/ and you got a numbered, growing list of currently an amount of items running somewhere of 3000+. Add pokemon which currently can become an easy 1000+ addition. But still it would be a hell of a workload to make it, but definitly not impossible

I only know of two people who have completed a full 10,000 image system, and only one person who uses it: Simon Reinhard.

I brainstormed some ideas over here: Brainstorming A Full 10,000-Image Mnemonic System and 10,000-image Memory System. I never had time to go beyond the brainstorming stage with it.

Are there benefits to a four digit system? When you go from 2 to 3 digits you could in theory increase your capacity and speed by 50 percent. But only if you are as fast as someone with a 2 digit system. People are obviously very fast with 3 digit systems.

But the gains would be lower if you go from 3 to 4 digits. Only 33 percent. That is of course still a lot if you are in competition. But the effort is enormous.

The automaticity that people like Mullen and Reinhard have with their images is amazing. Is it possible to be that fast if you have 10.000 images?
