Music theory (esp. by loci)?

Has anyone here ever studied serious music theory? I mean like 4-part harmony, non-harmonic tones, forms of cadences and progressions, chromaticism, Schenkerian reduction, etc?

I’m taking a crash refresher course, after many many years not studying this stuff, and I’m bewildered by how to absorb it in an organized fashion. I can cram it, but we all know that’s not a great solution. (If we thought it were, we wouldn’t read this forum!)

Any ideas? I mostly use loci systems keyed to a fairly elaborate card structure, if that helps.

I've only studied basic music theory. I'd pick it up again, but I ended up with hand injuries and wouldn't be able to apply it... :/
