Get a first look at our new memory software!

Here is a first look at the memory software that we've been working on. The software is designed and built by a new team: Issa, Josh (me), Nelson Dellis, and Simon Orton (4x national memory champions and creators of the Extreme Memory Tournament).

We've launched a Kickstarter campaign to help us finish it more quickly, allow pre-orders, and get feedback when we enter beta. Click any of the images below to learn more about the Kickstarter.

We've spent years discussing memory techniques here in the forum -- now we're making everything interactive. You will be able to create your memory systems, manage your memory journeys, and review your knowledge with spaced repetition. You'll also be able to compete against other members in real-time memory games, both with random data and real facts.

If you have questions, you can ask them here in this thread or send any of us a message. We hope that you like it and will share it with your friends so that we can launch it more quickly! :)

Saw this in my email this morning. Will have to wait till I find gainful employment but you are definitely on my list. It's hard to find either the time or money for ventures like this. Are you intending to provide a subscription based service like memocamp, a free service, a mix of both? Any chance of sneaking the mental calculation bits in or will we watch from the bleachers? :)

thanks for hosting. I keep coming back.

I'd definitely like to have some mental calculation there, especially if we can fund it past the minimum goal. I think that we have similar interests (studying programming and math), so I think that you will like it. :)

The core software will be subscription based (this is full-time work for a small team of people), but the forum and wiki will still be free. Some of the new features will be free as well. The price is about the cost of buying one of us a coffee or lunch once per month in return for our work.

If anyone isn't ready to contribute to the campaign yet, it would still help us reach our goal just to share the link (artofmemory.com/kickstarter) with as many people as possible. :)

In addition to showing my support I'd probably benefit from using the software, and am thus contributing to the campaign with a pledge. Hopefully you'll reach at least the minimum level

Thanks for all of the support on the first day! :)

I've just added a video in the top post above so you can see more closely how the memory palace management part of the software works.

You haven't done a good job explaining what it does in layman terms also does it run on Linux?

Thanks for the feedback. We'll work on that today. :)

It's a web app that will run on any operating system, including Linux. (I'm a Linux user.)

I´ve been contributed with usd 3.

What do you think about including Virtual Reality Devices (such as Occulus Rift) to create mind palaces ? I think it would be great, and using that technology we could create unlimited mind palaces.

Thanks for the support! :)

VR will surely be involved at some point, but probably not in the first iteration. You will be able to create and manage all of your mind palaces with the first version of the software without needing any extra hardware.

Thank your for your reply.

If you won´t reach the 20K goal, shall you finish the software anyway ?

Yes, definitely. The goal of the Kickstarter is to raise funds to help speed up the development. We're almost at 20% of the funding goal with three weeks to go.

Even if people reading this aren't able to back the campaign at the moment, sharing a link to artofmemory.com/kickstarter with your friends, school, coworkers, and on social media can help us reach the goal and get the software to everyone faster! :)

Thank you.

I´m interested in the software , mainly for one reason. I´m so lazy to create palaces, journeys, etc, i trully believe in these techniques but the only turn off is creating the locis from the "real world" , for example i live in small apartment, and therefore it lacks loci images, also i don´t like to go out and take a ride in my neighborhood to have more locis in my "vault".

If i want to memorize a list of things for one subject, one small memory palace such as my apartment will be fine, but i want to memorize different sort of things, and each subject has many many things to memorize (for example memorizing CCNP and CCIE subjects like BGP and MPLS, other palace for financial data and so on)

I don´t want to have false expectations about the software you are programming, but if with that software i would create locis from a a huge gallery (or upload my own images), i think it would help a lot.

What do you think ?

The software will allow you to upload your memory journey images, create locations, and even add your mnemonic images (with the facts that they represent) to the journeys. We will have a gallery of pre-made journeys that you can use. Also, users will be able to share their journeys with other users, so we hope to have a large library of pre-made locations to choose from.

You could think of it as "technologically assisted memory journey creation" so that people can create and review their knowledge more quickly than doing the entire process mentally, with spreadsheets, or on paper.

Here is a quick preview of that feature:

Will all the XMT Training site content be transplanted into this software? Or will it be maintained separately?

Hi Alex,

They will be separate initially (although the AOM subscription will include access to XMT Training). We may consider integrating them down the track.

If you back the level called "Early Watson" for USD $50, you now get two years of the Art of Memory software plus the XMT training site, so it's a great deal -- about $2.09 per month, which is about the price of a cup of coffee.

There are only 21 rewards left at $50 and then the "Watson" level goes up to $60. artofmemory.com/kickstarter

Now at 11,500$, it was around 8000$ 1 or 2 days ago. 6 days left. There's a decent chance you'll make it ( :

We've raised about $16,000 and are about $4,000 away from our minimum funding goal with just three days left. Today and tomorrow I will be sending users a request to help support the continued development of the site. Maybe 100 more backers could get us to our goal, so every pledge counts at this point.

Thanks for all of the support so far! :)

Only 3000$ more needed. That may be a stupid question, but does anyone knows anyone who could contact Dan Brown or Derren Brown or Bill Gates or the Sherlock Holmes writters or any famous/rich people who either use mnemonics or had something positive to say about Moonwalking with Einstein? Maybe Joshua Foer knows someone?

Thanks for all of the support! We're working on reaching out to everyone with another set of emails, and I hope that we can reach our goal that way. There are only about 67 hours left to raise $3,000, but I think that we can do it. :)

Sorry to disturb inboxes more than usual during this Kickstarter campaign, but we need support if we're going to reach our minimum funding goal. :)

We have 49 hours left to raise the last $1,250, so it's getting closer. Thanks for all of the support!

Thanks so much, everyone! Really looking forward to showing all of you the software. :)

For anyone who hasn't backed it yet, the Kickstarter is a chance to get it at a discount. Your backing there also includes the XMT training software as a bonus ($50 for two years just by itself). There are still 42 hours left to get that deal.
